Boracay
Island, the jewel of Philippine tourism, is fast becoming one of the
premier beach playgrounds of Asia. This surge in popularity is due to
the unique natural beauty of Boracay Island, which is now a marine
preserve, that is frequently voted to have the best beaches in the
world, combined with a multitude of inexpensive Boracay vacation past
times. In most Philippine vacation spots you are confined to your hotel
of choice - but not in Boracay! - which offers a 4 k. long sandy
promenade stretching the entire length of White Beach with a continuous
collection of inviting restaurants offering a wide selection of
different national cuisines including: Filipino seafood, French,
Japanese, Korean, Indian, Italian, Thai, etc., plus trendy boutiques,
craft shops, cozy beach bars, lively discos, sensuous massage centers
and water sports outlets. Most Boracay vacationers at sunset are
tempted to stroll the Boracay beach promenade, taking a little

Boracay
Island combines crystal clear waters, the legendary white sands of
Boracay beach and lush hilly landscapes into an idyllic tropical

kilometers long and one kilometer wide at its narrowest point, is
located just off the northern tip of the large neighboring island of
Panay. The northern and southern parts of Boracay Island rise into the

face the sea with beaches at one end and weather worn cliffs at the
other. On your arrival secure yourself, a copy of the Boracay map. Here
you can find one of the finest beaches in the world - Boracay White
Beach, a broad 3.5 kilometer stretch of white sun drenched sand, washed
by perpetually clear turquoise water. The pure white beaches of Boracay
are a sun worshipper's heaven on earth. Just lazing under the palm
trees in the tropical sun is a favorite Boracay vacation past time.
Boracay weather is warm all year round but there is a dry season and a
rainy season.
During
the dry season (December to July) White Beach is leeward shore which
results in a calm, turquoise seas, ideal for frolics in the warm water
to cool off from the tropical heat. During this period, the opposite,
eastern side, forms the windward shore, with almost continuous onshore
winds and protective reefs that create an ideal environment for both
the novice and the experienced wind surfer or kite boarder. The "Fun
Board" International Windsurfing Cup is held in this area during
January - February each year when the winds are at their best. The
eastern shore also contains numerous sheltered and picturesque bays,
rewarding the ardent walker with many great scenic views. The Boracay
scuba diving schools and water sports outlets along the beaches offer
the best equipment for rental and expert instructions at reasonable
prices, including scuba gear, sailing, kite boarding and wind surfing
equipment. Boracay dive schools are some of the most popular dive
school locations in Asia with good shallow nearby coral dives and
drop-offs to depths of thirty meters.
For more leisurely pursuits, the full day trip of picnicking and snorkeling around the island by local boat is popular among travelers and can be easily arranged. These trips usually include island hopping, picnic lunch set in an isolated beach and visit to the northern caves, home of the giant fruit bats and other sites of interest.
For active landlubbers the interior of the island extends a natural invitation to hike or mountain bike the many trails crisscrossing the gentle hilly slopes, while offering scenic views along the way. Alternatively, a tour of the island, using typical Boracay transportation of motorized tricycle, can be arranged.
At the end of the day, watch the spectacular sunsets from Nigi Nigi beachfront bar, a popular Boracay photograph. Scuba Diving
Boracay is a magnificent national marine preserve and one of the most popular Philippine dive areas in Southeast Asia with currently thirty state-of-the-art Boracay dive schools offering the entire range of Philippine scuba diving activities from basic demonstrations through to advanced level certifications. Boracay is a great Philippine scuba diving holiday location, simply because it combines a wide range of Philippine dive tour activities with one of the best beaches in the world plus the numerous good quality resorts, restaurants, bars and night time events.
On surveying the various languages offered by the dive schools centred around Nigi Nigi's Boracay Beach Resort on White Beach we find dive services and instruction in English, French, Hebrew, German, Korean, Japanese, Italian, Spanish and Swedish. For safety reasons it is preferable for beginners to receive instruction in their mother tongue. In order
for non-divers to experience the wonders of the underwater world most
schools offer short P.A.D.I. Discover Scuba Diving Introductory plus
Beginner's Open Water Courses. White Beach, with its warm tranquil
waters and gentle sandy slope, is the ideal place for those first
training sessions followed by shallow yet exhilarating dives to the
local coral reefs, where the student can enjoy the vast richness of
tropical reef life, while still training within a calm protected
environment. The Discover Scuba Diving program is purely an
introductory course completed within one day, with intro-lectures,
video, shallow water equipment demonstration followed by the first
chaperoned dive. For beginners wishing to proceed to the first level
P.A.D.I. certification, all schools offer 4 day Open Water Courses
(O.W.), which is the most recognized international certification. The
O.W. course includes thorough equipment familiarization and basic scuba
diving techniques and includes extensive lectures and three to four
adventurous dives designed to progressively increase the skill level of
the student. For those wishing to upgrade their P.A.D.I. certification
level the Boracay scuba diving schools offer the full range of P.A.D.I.
courses from Advanced level to Instructor training programs.
For
certified divers Boracay and its surroundings offer a wide variety of
dive excursions including spectacular coral gardens, deep wall
drop-offs, drift and night dives. With a well planned dive schedule a
qualified diver can complete up to four exciting dives a day. To expand
your diving enjoyment many Boracay scuba diving schools offer overnight

Boracay is extremely scenic, with many challenging and varied routes around the island, some 25 kilometres long. Most of the routes are on loose dirt roads and steep climbs up to lookout points that give spectacular views across clear, blue waters to the distant islands. Then a steep drop down along single track paths through thick vegetation and native villages to another deserted beach. Cycling along these beaches at low tide is an exhilarating experience and then finally back through the coconut groves to the main beach. Rides may end with a long cool swim in the ocean. This certainly adds a new dimension to your Philippine vacation.
Bike rentals are available at US $ 2.00 per hour or US $ 12.00 per day. For the serious biker we suggest that you bring your own bicycle. If it comes as extra baggage from Manila to Caticlan, the cost is minimal. For longer two or three day trips the Nigi Nigi boat will take you to Caticlan on the island of Panay where the opportunities for adventurous cycling are unlimited.

Boracay Windsurfing
Boracay is one of the best windsurfing locations in the Philippines. The winds blow fairly consistently all year but, of course, stronger during the rainy season. The Boracay Challenge Cup is held in the third week of January each year. It is also ideal for beginners because the first 600 metres out from the beach is only 1.5 metres deep and protected by a coral reef resulting in flat waters. There are a number of establishments renting top quality equipment with a good selection of board and sail sizes. Average costs are below. |

Boracay Kiteboarding
There are a number of IKO licensed kite boarding schools that operate year round . Rental equipment is readily available at about US $ 20.00 per hour and a 3 hour introductory course costs US $ 50.00.
Tennis
There are two good quality courts next to Nigi Nigi Boracay Resort with flood lights for cooler evening games. They are nearly always available . Use of the court costs US $ 4.00 per hour. There are reasonable quality rackets and balls available for a nominal rental fee .
Mountain Climbing
There are two mountains over 2000 metres high on the neighbouring island of Panay. Treks to these mountains can be arranged, or one can go trekking through the rain forests, passing through tribal villages on the way to spectacular waterfalls. There are excellent caves only one hour from Boracay for both the serious and novice caver. These caves are at least three kilometres in length.
Golfing in the Philippine Paradise of Boracay Island
Enjoy a round of Philippine golf on a truly spectacular course situated in a lush tropical setting. The clear blue water of the South China Sea is visible from many vantage points on the course and there are wonderful views from the 19th hole of other islands in the Philippines archipelago.
This championship, eighteen hole, 6524 yard, par 72 golf course was designed by Graham Marsh. There are good quality golf clubs available for hire. The pro shop is stocked with all of the golf accessories. The green fees of approximately US $ 80.00 per round, per person, include a caddie. Club rental costs approximately US $ 20.00 per set
